Organisational and technical capacity building is aimed to help ensure that harm reduction programs have the necessary skills and strategies they need to implement effective harm activities to address the HIV prevention, treatment and care needs of injecting drug users in the Central and Eastern European and Central Asia. Capacity building efforts focus on issues of organisational effectiveness such as planning and management, as well as technical health and rights issues including HIV related issues ranging from behaviour change communication, provision of injecting equipment and medications such as methadone and antiretroviral treatments, monitoring and evaluation, finance, gender issues, partnering and advocacy.

This Capacity Assessment Toolkit was developed to enable harm reduction organisations to analyze levels of capacity in these different organisational and technical areas.

NGO Code of Good Practice Self-Assessment Checklist: Harm Reduction

This self-assessment checklist will help you assess the degree to which your organisation is successfully implementing good practice in your work on harm reduction. The questions are designed to be thinking points or guidelines to help you identify areas that are already at a ‘good practice’ level, and areas that need to be developed and strengthened.
