June 6-7, 2016
Vilnius, Lithuania

Eurasian Harm Reduction Network organizes a workshop “What works - How to leverage European Union funding for harm reduction in Central European countries of the EU?”. The aim of the workshop is to build the capacity of civil society and community organizations (CSOs) in selected 6 EU countries on the use of relevant EU funding instruments to support harm reduction activities in their countries.

19 representatives from Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Chech Republic, and Estonia will participate the event. The workshop lecturers are from Belgium and Italy.

Aim of the workshop: to build the capacity of civil society and community organizations in selected six (6) EU countries on the use of relevant EU funding instruments to support harm reduction activities in their countries.

Objectives:

1. Increase understanding among civil society organizations (CSOs) of EU budgeting processes, policies and funding instruments, which could be used to receive support for harm reduction activities in their countries.

2. To exchange good practices of advocating for the EU budget to devote resources towards HIV prevention among KAPs and of the use of relevant EU funding instruments by NGOs.

3. To identify the needs and opportunities for further capacity building of these NGOs with regard to budget advocacy or other harm reduction related spheres.

The workshop is organized by Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN) within the EC funded project “Harm reduction works! Improving funding for harm reduction and HIV prevention in the EU”.

This will be a first in a series of three of “what works” workshops to be conducted within this project. The thematic focus of two others will be on national level budget advocacy and PWID community systems strengthening to overcome legal barriers.
